Kochi

Kochis, nomadic Pashtuns from Afghanistan, travel with their flocks on camelback or by foot.

My paternal grandmother, a member of the Naseri tribe, had striking features and deep navy blue eyes.

Each spring, her family, dressed in the rich colors and intricate patterns of Kochi attire, would visit us, performing the Afghan Atan with a drum before continuing their migration.

Kochi clothing is characterized by its bright colors, elaborate embroidery, and adornments such as coins, bells, and tassels. Loose-fitting garments, layered styling, headscarves, hats, and an array of jewelry and accessories further distinguish their cultural heritage.

Kochi woman adorned in traditional Kochi clothing and jewelry stands gracefully before a camel, her blue eyes radiating joy. The desert landscape behind her boasts mountains, a vibrant sky, and scattered flowers, all depicted in the distinct style of Behzad miniatures.
